After I just got my iphone 6 upgrade I searched to find at the very least an "iSubstitute" until things clear up here or move on. I settled for a free app called
Tonido. It has most of the features of iSub, including the ability to run on iOS 8. It also can use https, it can do transcoding too. (Just need to update the transcode executables as they are pretty old.) It also allows for file downloads, uploads and much more. Server side sets up in a couple mins. Phone app is just as easy to setup and free.

Thanks Apple for making this harder than it has to be!
Tonido's OK, but caching albums is a pain, because you have to cache them as files. And they dump them all in the sam folder.
A significantly better app is Younity.
http://getyounity.com/Same idea, but more user friendly.
And for caching albums from Dropbox, Box, and the other cloud service, Eddy is an app that works quite well. Just a pain cause you gotta drop the albums into Drobox first, then grab them. But you can then delete them from Dropbox.
Both these apps allow for folder browsing and wifi caching, my favorite features of iSub.
And since I bought the 128gb iPhone, I'm loading music onto it the old fashioned way. It's a pain and the iPod client only allows for tag browsing, which sucks.
