Cannot access remotely after going to Win7

Postby fermunky » Wed Feb 10, 2010 2:55 pm

So, I upgrade to Win7 Ultimate, and I have IIS running on port 80, which I can access internally and remotely with no issue. So I install subsonic, and going to localhost:8080 works fine, but when i go remotely, it just hangs on "Waiting for [domain.com]...". It seems to have retained some DB info from the previous installation, as my music folders were already setup. I don't mind starting from scratch, but how can i uninstall it and wipe the DB settings clean so I can try again?

Important to note that I do have port forwarding set correctly, no firewall on the router, and Windows firewall is off as well...

hi,
Can you reach subsonic on your LAN using:
http://server-ipadress:8080 ( example: http://192.168.0.10:8080 )
if that works remote connections should work with:
http://(your external ip-address):8080

Uninstalling Subsonic isn't that hard.
Just use the uninstaller.
Next navigate to the folder where you installed Subsonic and delete that folder.
After that you can install Subsonic again.
But be aware that ALL your former settings will be lost ( users, passwords Music-folders etc.)

I did the uninstall and deleting of the folder, reinstalled, and tried a new port. I can reach it going to the internal ip:9090 and that works. Still cannot access it remotely. I use DynDNS and my router automatically updates my external IP, which has worked fine in the past. It was only after upgrading to windows 7. And, as mentioned, I have no problem access the content from my IIS server using the same domain I have with DynDNS... Any other ideas?

I don't know if I'm going way out off line here, but Win7 supports mediastreaming it-self by Windows Media player.
Could it be that Windows-mediaplayer has blocked all your music-folders?
I suppose you configured your network -settings in Win7 as a private network, so it could be that any attempt from computers "on the outside" to use your music-folders is blocked.
Perhaps a little experimenting with these settings in Win 7 could help?
( I'm sorry for any typo's, but English is not my native language...)

If that were the case, wouldn't my IIS access have the same problem? My IIS server has my music folder added as a virtual directory, and has no issues reaching the music.

Also, I use LogMeIn to sometimes access the PC remotely.

I figured if those things are working, it should be network settings. But I will certainly dig around in there to see what, if anything, I can find.

Good Point.
It seems queer to me that access to Subsonic is no problem when you're using the internal ip-address.
So either there must be a problem with your portforwarding, or there is a problem with access-rights to your music-folders.
I installed subsonic on Server 2008 and that didn't raise any problems.
( Apart from a minor issue with the lame-transcoding.)

Good news:

Got it working. Long story short, my router was doing something goofy with the port forwarding. Not sure exactly what the problem was, but all I did was go in and completely remove the forwarding for it, removed some other antiquated forwards still there, saved it, then went back and re-added, restarted the subsonic server for good measure, and boom, it worked. Really weird.

So, for those with a similar issue, instead of just trying to change the port being forwarded, try removing it totally, then re-adding the forwarding.

I have another related question, but not a problem anymore. I am fairly certain that, when my firewall at work is acting up, it is then blocking my subsonic access which I have on port 8080. Is there another port you folks would recommend I try changing this to? I am now thinking it is a firewall issue because I can still access my IIS server on domain.com (default port 80), but not the server on 8080. Other random web sites are blocked as well, even though I am suppose to have access through my firewall.
